Dead moose discovered

A group of people were out for a stroll along Gellatly Bay Saturday when they noticed a strong stench coming from the ravine.

The residents inched closer to the smell to find a carcass.

"We noticed a bad smell coming from the ravine at the end of Cindy Road. We saw this young dead female moose," said Kaisha Knauf Cyr.

"We called the conservation office and they said to call the local municipality office. We then found out they are closed for the weekend," Cyr added.

Witnesses say there doesn't appear to be any visible signs that the moose was shot.

The Public Works Yard for the city of Kelowna will remove the animal from a city road or public property.

Public Works operates Monday to Friday, but is closed on statutory holidays.

To report a carcass found, call 250-469-8600.
