No reason to sit around

YMCA of Okanagan launched a new program this week called Choose to Move, providing more free opportunities for older adults to be active and connect with a social network.

“Without the right guidance, being physically active, especially with a chronic condition, can be challenging, and you might not know where to start,” said Kelowna Family Y health and fitness manager, Serena Moser. “

This program will provide the regular guidance needed to begin and maintain healthy activity, while also bringing people together in an encouraging, non-intimidating social setting.”

The program has been operating in Vancouver for three years, with good success. Working with a certified activity coach, participants design a personalized physical activity program based on their interests, goals and abilities.

The first intake will run from the end of May to December, and includes a three-month Y membership. If the first round is a success, another program will be offered next winter.
