World's best up to bat

Top international fastpitch players will converge on Kelowna this long weekend.

The Kelowna Major Men’s Fastball Association May Days International Men’s Fastpitch Tournament returns to King’s Stadium May, Friday through Monday.

Organizer Kyle Blanleil says the tournament will feature some of the world's top players, including several Canadian, Argentina, Mexico, United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain national team members.

Participating teams in the eight-team tourney include the South Hill Giants, Portland Brewers, Westbank Cardinals, Irma Tigers, Grand Prairie Pirates, Abbotsford Builders, Sooke Loggers and the Kelowna All-Stars.

The Kelowna All-Stars are led by Travis and Trent Kunz, Kyle and Chad Blanleil, and Cole Leimart, among others.

The action starts Friday night at 7 p.m., when Kelowna takes on favorite South Hill Giants. Round-robin games run all day Saturday, and playoffs begin Sunday, with the finals taking on Monday at 11 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Kelowna Major Men’s regular season is underway, with four teams, Andre’s Athletics, King of Floor’s Installers, Kelowna Brewers and the Kelowna Bombers. Games are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:45 and 8:30 p.m.
