Cycling for the kids

More than two dozen riders will soon hit the road for the 17th annual Cops for Kids Ride.

Since its inception in 2001, the RCMP charity has raised more than $4 million.

Each of the police and volunteer riders train on their own time, raising a minimum of $2,000.

Kelowna's Pastor Tim Schroeder will be taking part in the fun for the second year in a row.

"I am riding because year one was one of the most profound experiences of my life. Joining a team that's completely committed to helping children in need, along with their families is a deeply rewarding experience," Schroeder said.

On Sept. 14, the team of riders will depart from Kelowna on a 10-day, 1,000-kilometra cycling journey across Southeastern B.C. to raise money for local children in medical, physical, or traumatic crisis.

During the 10 days, the team will cycle into 22 communities throughout the RCMP's South East District to raise money for local children who need it most.

"What I love about this organization is that it's right here. Every dollar that is invested stays right here," Schroeder added.
