Super-sized yard sale

Thousands will flock to Naramata this Saturday to bargain hunt and enjoy the atmosphere at the annual Naramata Yard Sale.

Over 50 homes are participating, selling their wares on the lawns of their properties, as well as several community groups like the school PAC and the Old Age Pensioners Hall.

"The amazing part is that it's about 10 per cent of the full-time occupied homes in Naramata, so a lot of folks join in on it and a couple thousand come from outside the area," said volunteer coordinator Craig Henderson. "It's a really festive atmosphere."

Highlights include the PAC used clothing sale at the school gym, at which you can fill a shopping bag with clothes for $5, and Reverend Sandra Stickney's infamous "Sticky Stickney Buns," her own recipe for cinnamon buns which "sell like hotcakes" according to Henderson.

He will be handing out maps of sale spots as people enter Naramata, and offered a hot tip to not just go to the houses in the main village.

"Some of the best stuff can sometimes be found on those homes up on the hill," he said.

Henderson has been coordinating the sale for six years now.

"It's really grown over the last few years, it has been fun to facilitate that and allow people to declutter for spring cleanup as well as gather a bit of change in their pocket as a result."

The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, but be sure to arrive early if you want the best finds.
