2 quartets for price of 1

Chamber Music Kelowna presents its final offering of the 2017-18 season May 1 at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.

Two powerhouse ensembles, the Dover and Pacifica Quartets will combine to perform Felix Mendelssohn’s Octet in E-flat major, Opus 20.

The evening will include additional works by Schoenberg and Shostakovich.

Prior to the concert, a pre-concert chat will take place in the Salloum rehearsal hall at 7 p.m.

Mendelssohn’s Octet was composed in 1825 when the composer was only 16 years old.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased through the RCA box office at 250-717-5304 or at rotarycentreforthearts.com.

Recognized for its virtuosity, exuberant style, and daring repertory choices, the Pacifica Quartet is recognized internationally as one of the finest ensembles performing today. The members of the quartet live in Bloomington, Indiana, where they serve as quartet-in-resident at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.

The PacificaQuartet was artist-in-residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (2009-2012) and received a Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance in 2009.

The Dover Quartet catapulted to international stardom following a sweep of the Grand Prize and all three Special Prizes at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition. The quartet won the grand prize at the Fischoff Competition, and special prizes at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition.

The New Yorkerdubbed them “the young American string quartet of the moment,” and The Strad raved that the Quartet is “already pulling away from their peers with their exceptional interpretive maturity, tonal refinement and tautensemble.”
