Market lifts city into spring

Signs of spring are in every direction at the Okanagan Makers Spring Market, going on at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre this weekend.

More than 150 vendors are on hand for the spring market, which began on Saturday and ends on Sunday and is being hosted by the Okanagan Makers for the first time.

"We have everything from beautiful orange trees just waiting to be picked, to entertainment, to free craft workshops, to our wonderful solar energy workshop," organizer Laurel Burnham said.

"Everything you need from home, to garden to heart, to lift you up and inspire you and get you ready for spring."

Burnham noted Earth Day, happening on Sunday, is tied into the theme of the market.

"I have invited a whole lot of environmental groups here today, to really provide people with the chance to find out about how we can become better citizens of the earth."

The market itself brought more than 2,000 people through the doors on Saturday, Burnham said, who added organizers are hoping for the same turnout on Sunday.

The spring market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the PTCC for its final day. Admission is $5 and is free for anyone aged 14 and under.

Proceeds will go to several charitable causes, including Discovery House and Peach City Radio among others.
