Protest for 'fair vote'

A Kelowna group advocating electoral reform in the province is planning a demonstration this afternoon.

Fair Vote Kelowna will take over what has become known as 'Protest Bridge,' the pedestrian crossing over Highway 97 at Parkinson Rec Centre, at 1 p.m.

The group favours electoral reform and 'Yes' to proportional representation in the fall referendum.

Fair Vote Canada-BC has deemed Saturday a "Day of Action in favour of Electoral Reform."

Kelowna spokesman Terry Robertson said they are trying to raise awareness.

“We also want to highlight the fact that the best way to accomplish this is to move to a system of proportional representation which ensures a fair distribution of seats in the legislature by which a party with 30 per cent of the votes receives 30 per cent of the seats," he said.
