Wildfire trucks burgled

UPDATE 12:40 p.m.

The BC Wildfire Service says four of its vehicles were broken into at a hotel in Osoyoos last night.

A spokesman said firefighting gear and personal belongings were stolen. It’s not believed the trucks were damaged in any way.

The file remains in the hands of the RCMP.

ORIGINAL 9:35 a.m.

A B.C. Wildfire Service vehicle was broken into earlier this week in the South Okanagan, according to the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen.

The RDOS reported the incident on Twitter on Thursday morning.

"It’s been disappointing to hear... they are here in such a generous capacity to support our community," the RDOS said.

BCWS members have been contracted to help sandbag in Willowbrook and the Sportsmens Bowl Road area of rural Oliver, which have been hammered by flooding and are under a state of emergency.

The break in happened in Osoyoos, according to RCMP, who couldn't immediately share more details.
