Traffic woes

Road construction has made navigating the downtown core a little more challenging for motorists lately. And at certain times of the day, traffic downright congested.

But there is good news and bad news on the construction front.

The good news is downtown will be much nicer once the work is complete, the bad news is that won't be done for another three months.

And starting Monday, navigating the city centre will be even more tricky as the city will be closing 30th Street from 35th to 37th avenue until the end of July.

Mark Dowhaniuk, manager, infrastructure management, said the $2-million project will connect the multi-use path from 27th Street as well as upgrading aging infrastructure.

“The infrastructure in the area is old and it needs to be replaced and the new improvements will create a new north-south connection through the heart of the city,” said Dowhaniuk.

Dowhaniuk said officials know what a hassle construction is, but it work that has to be done and it is a matter of short-term pain for long-term gain.

People are reminded that all businesses remain open during construction.
