Skier pulled out of creek

A skier who was rescued after skiing out of bounds in Vancouver's North Shore mountains is grateful for search and rescue volunteers.

Tiago Passos, an international student from Brazil, was found on Friday night shortly after his friends reported him missing.

He had cell phone service and was found stuck in a drainage creek by North Shore Search and Rescue. Crews spent the night sleeping in the area before bringing him to safety on Saturday.

Passos said the experience was a lesson about not skiing out of bounds.

"You think you know, but you don't … I got completely stuck," he told CTV.

"This wonderful team … They kept me calm, they gave me food, and they rescued me," he added. "I'm so glad to be back."

The terrain Passos was stuck in was nearly vertical, according to Scott Merriman with North Shore Rescue. Another skier was rescued from the same spot only a few weeks earlier.

"Stay in bounds... It can go bad really quick when you duck that line," Merriman said.
