Dressing up for KFX

It looked like the set of a movie in downtown Kelowna Saturday, as the Kelowna Fan Experience took over four venues for its fifth year.

The event, modelled after San Diego's Comic-Con, is a celebration of all things pop culture, and this year saw cosplayers, comic book writers and video game enthusiasts, among many others, join together.

“You can feel the positive energy,” said Melissa Sbrega, producer of KFX. “There's people that don't always socialize and they come out in these beautiful costumes that they spend months, even years working on.

“It's just a wonderful atmosphere to be here ... it's a welcoming environment and it's a big family here.”

Events were held at the Rotary Centre for the Arts, the Kelowna Community Theatre, the Black Box Theatre and Kelowna's Okanagan Regional Library.

KFX will continue through Sunday, with festivities beginning at 10 a.m. with a talk by Nathalie Boltt, who plays Penelope Blosson on the TV show Riverdale.
