Kindale flood watch

Officials with Kindale Development in Armstrong are doing what they can to prevent history from repeating itself.

Last year, two of the Armstrong centres were damaged by flood waters from nearby Meghan Creek, but this year one location has already been sandbagged and the contents of a ground level unit have been removed from another.

Cindy Masters, with Kindale, said they were advised to start removing stuff from the building Friday morning and within a few hours, volunteers were taking items to higher ground.

“Because everything in these locations is brand new, we were advised to get it out before the flooding began,” she said.

The goal was not only to save as many items as possible, but to keep the programs running without interruption.

“Last year, we were hit very hard. We had locations closed for several months. We will re-locate our location for as many weeks as it takes just to see what is going to happen,” said Masters.

Kindale Developmental Association is a community based network of dedicated people providing individualized person centred support for persons with disabilities within an inclusive and interdependent community.
