YLW swamped

Kelowna International Airport was swamped Friday in more ways than one.

The staff parking lot was tricky to navigate following Thursday night's torrential rain.

Airport manager Sam Samaddar says there were some challenges getting to some vehicles, but conditions were improving this morning. No flights were impacted by the heavy rain.

The sheer volume of travellers using the airport meant overflow parking lots were being activated to handle extra vehicles as people travel for spring break.

"People should consider taking a taxi, a shuttle or having a friend drop them off," said Samaddar.

Long-term planning goals include increasing capacity for parking, baggage handling, and screening.

YLW is already on course for eight per cent volume growth this year, following similar increases the past few years.
