Welcome to Canada, eh

Madison Erhardt

Canada's citizenry grew by 58 people Thursday afternoon in Kelowna.

Many were dressed in red as they were officially sworn in as Canadian citizens at the Delta Grand Hotel.

"You get to have a Canadian passport, the key to the world. Whether you're a man or a woman, you have the right to any job that hard work and talent can obtain. That is not possible in many countries in the world," said citizenship judge Gerald Pash.

Param Rai has been living in Canada for close to 15 years. And Rai has been looking forward to this day ever since he made the move from India.

"I am very excited. I love everything about Canada, especially the people and culture. I like living here," he said.

People of all ages from around the world, many of whom have lived in Canada for years, were part of the ceremony.

"Yes, you can still cheer for the other team at the Olympics, that's OK," Pash joked.
