Gas station rebuild green-lit

An eyesore property along the main strip in OK Falls will soon be rebuilt — the site where a suspicious fire burned down a gas station in 2016.

The site at 5228 9th Avenue, which is along Highway 97, will see a two-storey service station built which will include a carwash, gas station and office, retail and storage space.

Board members with the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen approved a development permit request for the project on Thursday.

A report from RDOS staff said the new building will look similar to the former Centex gas station before it burned down.

Staff added "repairing the burned service station structure on site is seen as an important project for the overall aesthetic of OK Falls."

The building on the property burned down in August 2016. No arrests were made as a result of the incident that police had deemed as suspicious.
