Be a neighbourhood champ

Wanted: neighbourhood champions.

The City of Kelowna's Strong Neighbourhoods program is looking for residents interested in hosting community events. These could be block parties, themed gatherings, community pot lucks or neighbourhood cleanups.

“We’ll bring equipment, including tables, chairs, music and games. It doesn’t take much to have a little neighbourhood soiree,” says spokesperson Tanya Sletten. “It’s a great opportunity for neighbours to turn the TV off, break out the speakers, and get to know each other.”

The program runs from April 15 to Oct. 15. As an extra incentive, the first 10 applicants will receive a $50 gift card to put towards food for their event.

A simple "hello" can spark neighbourhood improvements and new friendships.

Since the program’s inception in 2014, more than 3,500 residents have participated in 40 events across Kelowna.
