Crashes on Highway 97

UPDATE: 5:58 p.m.

A three car collision occurred just after 5 p.m. between Edwards Road and the U.B.C.O turnoff. 

Highway 97 Northbound is at a stand still. 

A witness said a southbound vehicle slid over the median by the bridge and connected with two vehicles. 

Drivers are being rerouted.

RCMP and emergency crews are on scene investigating. 

Paramedics left the scene just before 6 p.m.

The severity of the injuries to the motorists is unclear at this time. 

UPDATE 4:20 p.m.

Motorists are reporting road conditions between Vernon and Lake Country are treacherous.

One witness told Castanet they saw three accidents along the stretch of Highway 97.

The dump of snow blanketing the region has made travel hazardous and people are being urged to drive with extreme caution and give themselves plenty of time to get to their destination.

UPDATE 3:48 p.m.

Emergency crews are running from accident to accident and motorists are being urged to slow down and drive with extreme caution.

While there have not been any reports of serious injuries, there have been numerous reports of accidents ranging from roll overs to collisions.

The snowfall is causing slick road conditions throughout the Okanagan. 

Several motor vehicle incidents have been reported. 

So far mostly minor accidents. 

Multiple reports of accidents and vehicles in the ditch along Highway 97.

There has also been a minor crash at the intersection of Highway 6 and 25 Ave. in Vernon.

Castanet readers sending in news tips are reporting that the roads are very slick.

Environment Canada forecasting between 2 to 4 cm of snow Friday with flurries continuing overnight.
