A pair of search warrants executed over two days at a property in Chilliwack found RCMP seizing firearms, illegal drugs and stolen property.
Police had received reports of heavy foot and vehicle traffic to a home in the 9200 block of Broadway Street, prompting the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit to uncover covert information and gain a warrant.
On Feb. 15, Crime Reduction Unit officers along with Prolific Offender Suppression Team members searched the house and discovered drugs believed to be methamphetamine, as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Five individuals in the residence were also taken into custody, and later released by RCMP.
This wasn't the first sanctioned search at this address. According to RCMP spokesperson Mike Rail, "the execution of the search warrant on February 15 follows a search conducted by the RCMP in Jan. 2018."
According to an RCMP release, the January search, conducted on the 16th, yielded "a significant amount of drugs believed to be opioids, and methamphetamine, firearms, ammunition and property linked to thefts from businesses in Chilliwack."
Three people were taken into custody at that time for unrelated arrest warrants. The RCMP will be including all details of both searches in a report to Crown counsel for an assessment of charges.
Rail said that community residents sending tips to the RCMP were key to the police gaining ground in their investigation.
"The RCMP work together with citizens to keep our neighbourhoods safe from drugs and violence,” Rail said.
The RCMP have the following signs to watch for to spot a criminal or drug household in their neighbourhood:
- Constant day and night foot or vehicle traffic to the property
- Loiterers around the property
- House lights always on
- Regular or unusual traffic patterns
Anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour is asked to contact the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
