Victoria's Airport Authority has announced a $19.4-million expansion.
The project will double the size of the departure lounge and include the installation of dedicated aircraft gates and covered walkways. Passengers currently have to walk across the tarmac to board flights.
New washrooms, restaurants and retail shops will also be included in the expanded departure area.
The airport saw a record 1,934,832 passengers through its doors in 2017.
McFarlane Biggar Architects of Vancouver will design the expansion, and Victoria-based Durwest Construction Management will oversee the project.
