Kelowna's Tess Critchlow will try and conquer the tough snowboard cross track at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Several athletes fell and were unable to finish their race in what, at times, resembled a demolition derby on the demanding layout.
The victims included Vernon's Kevin Hill, and Canadian Chris Robanske, who required medical attention on the hill after being run over by another competitor during one of two semi-finals. He was third at the time of the crash.
Critchlow is 15th on the World Cup snowboard cross circuit. She has seven top 20, and one top 10 finish in nine races this season.
Over her World Cup career, Critchlow has finished inside the top 10 on four occasions, including a pair of sixth place finishes..
Both occurred during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
The opening qualifying runs begin at 5 p.m. Pacific time Thursday. Semi-finals and finals start about 7:30.
