Serwa falls in race final

Kelowna's Kelsey Serwa finished fourth after falling in the final of a women's World Cup ski cross event at Nakiska, Saturday.

Serwa, who was second for much of the first half of the race, had slipped back to third when she appeared to lose an edge and fell off the course.

Serwa seemed to be OK as she took part in the medal ceremony.

Sandra Naeslund of Sweden won her second straight World Cup race, and fifth overall Saturday.

French skiers finished second and third.

Serwa, who qualified 12th on Friday, finished second in both her quarter-final and semi-final races to qualify for the final.

Saturday's result moved Serwa into a tie for sixth with teammate Brittany Phelan in overall World Cup points.

Phelan won the small final, to finish fifth overall, while another Canadian, Tiana Gairns was sixth in her first ever World Cup race.

The final women's world cup race of the season is set for Sunday at Nakiska.
