T-Birds thump Rockets

The Seattle Thunderbirds turned the tables on the Kelowna Rockets Friday night.

The T-Birds, who fell 6-2 to the Rockets at the ShoWare Centre a week ago, got some semblance of revenge Friday in a 7-2 whipping of the same Rockets.

Nolan Volcan led the way offensively for the T-Birds, scoring three times. Jarret Tyszka and Sami Moilanen each had three assists.

Turner Ottenbreit, Blake Bargar, Noah Philp and Zack Andrusiak also scored for Seattle.

Dillon Dube on a second period power play and Conner Bruggen-Cate midway through the third scored for the Rockets.

Cole Tisdale, a 15-year-old goaltender playing AAA midget a week ago, saw his first Western Hockey League action.

Called up on an emergency basis due to injuries to both James Porter and Roman Basran, Tisdale came in midway through the second in relief of Brodan Salmond, who allowed five goals on 16 shots.

Tisdale allowed just two goals on 17 shots.

Salmond was playing just his second game since he was forced out of the lineup by injury in early November.

The Rockets return home to face the Victoria Royals Saturday in a first place BC Division showdown.

The Royals moved to within a single point of the division-leading Rockets after a 4-3 overtime win over Vancouver.
