Warriors rare win in Trail

Parm Dhaliwal's return to the West Kelowna Warriors' lineup couldn't have come at a better time.

Dhaliwal scored twice Friday as the Warriors edged the Trail Smoke Eaters 2-1 in the Kootenay city.

The second-year forward was playing some of his best hockey in a Warrior uniform when he went down with injury at the end of November.

He returned to the lineup earlier this week against Vernon.

Dhaliwal opened the scoring with his seventh of the season 13 minutes into the opening period on a Warriors power play.

He doubled the score 13 minutes into the second.

The Warriors nursed the lead until midway through the third when Andre Ghantous got one back for the Smoke Eaters.

They were unable to get the game-tying goal past Nik Amundrud.

Amundrud turned away 29 shots, including 11 in the final period.

The Warriors went 1-2 with the man advantage while the Smoke Eaters were successful on one of their three chances on the power play.

The win snapped the Warriors two-game losing streak, and was their first this season in Trail.

The Warriors return to kick off a four-game homestand Saturday against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
