Safe after chilly night

UPDATE 12:30 p.m.

Ephraim Nowak, President and Search Manager with Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, tells Castanet News a couple who ventured out near Oyama Lake last night to take some pictures, got stuck in their vehicle.

"COSAR responded with a team of UTV operators and located the subjects. Since COSAR is an emergency service, the focus of the rescue was on getting the subjects out of the cold. Once they were safe, a few members managed to get the vehicle turned around and onto the gravel section of the forest service road with minimal effort."

Nowak says the team managed to wrap up the rescue effort by five a.m. this morning.

As we head into the weekend Nowak reminds valley residents, "although the snow is melting in the valley, there is still plenty of snow at higher elevations. Motorists should remember to take a shovel and chains, and dress to be outside."
