Restoring Vernon Creek

Restoration work is scheduled to begin next Monday on Upper Vernon Creek.

The creek was damaged during last spring's historic floods.

The existing damaged concrete flume will be removed, an impermeable liner will be installed along the channel bottom, fish-friendly instream structures will be constructed, and the channel will be armoured with rock to prevent erosion, and re-establish riparian vegetation.

As a result of the planned work, there will be some traffic impact along Jim Bailey Crescent and Bubna Road.

Work on Upper Vernon Creek is the first phase of an estimated $5 million flood recovery plan.

City infrastructure along a number of creeks, lake shore parks and public spaces damaged by flooding will all be restored as well.

Emergency Management BC will pick up 80 per cent of the recovery cost.
