Serious syringe issue

CTV Vancouver Island is reporting that Island Health will hold an emergency meeting after a growing needle problem in downtown Victoria.

Three people have reportedly been pricked by discarded syringes in one week.

A woman discovered a needle in a planter on Johnson Street downtown on Monday.

Two others had similar experiences last week.

The health authority says it will meet with service providers Wednesday, including those who handle clean needle exchanges, as it looks for answers.

"We're going to be looking at greater surveillance of where the needles are occurring," said Dr. Richard Stanwick, Chief Medical Officer for Island Health.
