Replica gun set off alarms

Victoria police responded to what they thought was a weapon call Wednesday morning.

Turns out the weapon involved was a very realistic looking replica.

Officers say the weapon looked a little too much like the real thing and caused a serious commotion just outside of City Hall.

CTV Vancouver Island is reporting officers swarmed the square with weapons drawn around 10:30 a.m. in response to a report of a man seen brandishing what was believed to be a handgun.

Sgt. Jeff Mason says police are having an increasingly difficult time identifying replica weapons made to look just like the real thing.

Police were seen speaking with witnesses in the square and are determining whether or not charges will be recommended against the man.
