Rockets blow late lead

The Moose Jaw Warriors showed why they are the top team in the Western Hockey League.

The Warriors scored five unanswered goals in the third period, erasing a two-goal deficit in  a 6-3 victory over the Kelowna Rockets.

It was the Rockets second straight loss on their six-game Eastern Division road trip. In both, they led past the midway point of the third period.

The Rockets built a 3-1 lead after Wil Kushniryk and Kyle Topping snapped a 1-1 with goals 16 seconds apart in the final two minutes of the second period.

Kushniryk's goal was the first of his WHL career.

The Rockets couldn't carry the momentum of the two late goals into the third.

Jayden Halbgewachs and Justin Almeida scored 44 seconds apart five minutes into the third to pull the Warriors even.

Vince Loschiavo beat Roman Basran with what proved to be the game winner five minutes later.

Basran, who relieved James Porter in the first two games of the trip, allowed five goals on 39 shots.

Carsen Twarynski scored the other goal for the Rockets, who were without forward Kole Lind, Dillon Dube and Cal Foote.

The Rockets continue their road trip Wednesday in Swift Current, Friday in Prince Albert and Saturday in Saskatoon.
