Rockets streak halted

Something had to give when the Kelowna Rockets and Brandon Wheat Kings met Saturday, both boasting lengthy winning streaks.

The Rockets are the ones hoping to start a new one.

Brandon won their eighth in a row, 7-4 over the Rockets, snapping Kelowna's six-game winning streak.

For the second night in a row, James Porter started, but was pulled after allowing four early goals. Friday, he allowed four goals in 14 shots in the first. Saturday, it was four goals on 11 shots by the 14 minute mark of the second.

The Rockets were able to come back Friday...but were not so fortunate Saturday.

The game was tied 2-2 after 20 minutes before Dillon Dube staked the Rockets to their first, and only lead, 9:40 into the second.

Ty Lewis tied it a minute later and the Wheaties broke the game open with goals less than two minutes apart to take a 5-3 lead.

The first of those two chased Porter from the net, replaced by Roman Basran.

The 16-year-old rookie allowed two goals on 14 shots.

Rookie Ted Brennan with his first Western Hockey League goal, Nolan Foote and Kole Lind, both on the power play, also scored for the Rockets. Cal Foote has three assists.

The Rockets will now have to complete the remaining four games of their Eastern Division road trip without Dube, Lind and Cal Foote, who all leave Sunday for Canada's world junior selection camp.

The Rockets get a couple of days off before resuming the road trip in Moose Jaw Tuesday.
