Uber: 'Let us in'

A senior manager with Uber Canada was in Kelowna Thursday, calling on B.C.’s government to finally let ride-sharing services into the province.

At a Kelowna Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Michael van Hemmen said Uber is ready to come to B.C. as soon as the government makes it possible.

“If the government put forward a framework that supports ride sharing, we’d be here as quick as we can,” he said.

Van Hemmen’s request came on the same day Green Party leader Andrew Weaver announced ride-sharing legislation is on its way to a legislative committee.

For more on how the provincial government is approaching ridesharing in B.C., as well as what van Hemmen has to say about the massive hack that targeted Uber last year, check out the full story on Okanagan Edge.
