Cougar sighting at school

Peter Greer Elementary school remains on high alert after a group of kindergarten students reported seeing a cougar just off the school grounds, Wednesday morning.

Principal James Minkus says the school takes safety seriously, so students were kept inside and parents were advised to pick up their children from school directly to ensure no one walked home alone.

"We believe our children and we spoke to them individually, and they all said the same thing – so we took action," said Minkus.

The school also called BC Conservation to report the sighting. No officers attended the school, but they did say they would if there are any more sightings. A resident in the area also saw cougar tracks in their backyard recently.

Minkus says staff are keeping a watchful eye today and have advised all students and teachers of the danger.

A teacher is always on the field with students during any breaks, and today Minkus will be out keeping a watchful eye as well.
