Fire and death accidental

Police have determined the discovery of a body in a Rutland house fire Monday is not suspicious.

Fire crews responded to the fire on the 1200 block of Gaggin Road at 9:30 p.m., and discovered a body inside the burned residence.

Police said the body was so burned that they couldn't identify the gender of the deceased.

On Wednesday, police announced the fire and the death are believed to be accidental, and are no longer being treated as suspicious.

“The investigation has now been turned over to the BC Coroners Service,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP.

“Investigational findings, as a result of a thorough examination of the fire scene, have allowed RCMP to deem the fire and death as non-suspicious. The blaze is believed to be accidental in nature.”
