Police are investigating a report of an assault on an elderly woman in Penticton on Saturday.

The woman, 68, told Penticton RCMP she was walking to her car parked outside London Drugs at Cherry Lane Mall around 8 p.m., when she noticed two men and a woman doing what she thought was drugs.

“She stopped and told them to leave the area,” said Cpl. Ted Manchulenko. “One of the males approached her in what she thought was an aggressive fashion.”

The woman proceeded to spray her water bottle at the male.

“He then responded by grabbing the woman by her arms and pushing her up against the wall,” Cpl. Manchulenko said.

He quickly released his grip and the woman did not sustain any injuries.

Security footage showed the two males dressed in camouflage and hoods leaving the scene on BMX bikes, while their female friend trailed closely behind.

“If you see actions like this taking place I would suggest people do not get involved and if you want to get involved contact the police,” Cpl. Manchulenko said. “You can observe from a safe distance but to approach people who are unknown to you at 8 p.m. at night, in an area that may be a little bit dark, might not be the best idea.”
