Cook to oppose Stewart

Barring a last-minute change of heart, Shelley Cook is set to once again carry the NDP banner in Kelowna West.

Cook, who was soundly defeated by then-premier Christy Clark in the May provincial election, is set to be acclaimed as the NDP candidate in a byelection that is yet to be called.

The vote is necessary after Clark stepped down as premier and MLA in August after the Liberals were replaced in office by a minority NDP government propped up by the Green party.

According to the NDP riding association, Cook has been approved to seek the nomination, and will be acclaimed Dec. 3 at the Holiday Inn in West Kelowna. Horgan will be in attendance.

Ben Stewart is running for the BC Liberals. He previously held the seat, but stepped aside after Clark lost in her Vancouver riding in the 2013 election.

The NDP has until early February to announce a date for the byelection, likely March 1.
