We're still golfing

There may not be many but there are still some hardy golfers out on the nine-hole course at Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club.

The golf course reopened for business last Thursday after the snow melted.

“The sun came out and we were sitting around here, we're at work anyway, so we made a quick decision to get golfing,” said Kyle Wiebe, the club's tournament coordinator.

Wiebe said the course is staying open on a day-to-day basis at this time, dependent on the weather. It is also not open on Sundays.

“The snow was definitely a surprise. It was an abrupt end to the season. Usually we aim to stay open until November 11th. We closed but then we opened back up and will stay open as long as the weather holds.”

Wiebe acknowledged the Spall club was hit hard by spring flooding that kept golfers off parts of the course for some time.

“This mild weather is a real bonus for us,” he said.
