Rockets get some payback

The Kelowna Rockets were finally able to solve the Portland Winterhawks.

At the same time, they found the offensive footing.

After scoring just four goals in their last three, the Rockets exploded for seven in a 7-2 win over the Winterhawks Saturday at Prospera Place.

It capped a string of four games in nine nights between the two Western Conference rivals.

Carsen Twarynski led the way with his second career Western Hockey League hat trick. His first came back on February 2 of last year when he was still a member of the Calgary Hitmen.

Kole Lind had a goal and three assists while Kyle Topping, Gordie Ballhorn and Erik Gardiner all chipped in with three assists.

Both Foote brothers and Leif Mattson also scored for the Rockets.

The Rockets turned the tables on a Winterhawks team which was able to build a 3-0 first period lead in both games between the two teams last weekend in Portland.

Saturday, it was the Rockets who took it to backup goaltender Shane Farkas in building a 3-0 first period lead.

They increased it to 5-1 after two before closing things out with two more goals in the third.

James Porter, making his third straight start in place of Brodan Salmond, made 34 saves to earn his first win on home ice.

He was named a star for the third game in a row.

The Rockets wore special pink jersey's which were auctioned off during the game.

Proceeds went to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Saturday's win snapped the Rockets five game losing streak.

They close out a four game home stand with games against Tri-City Friday and Prince George Saturday.
