The Rock gets his own day

When you love the city, the city loves you back.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has frequented Vancouver and the surrounding area recently, as he is starring in the movie Skyscraper that is currently being filmed in the region.

The Rock has publicly stated his love for Vancouver and, most recently, for Surrey during filming.

On Thursday, Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson issued a proclamation to officially make Oct. 19th 'The Rock' Day in the city.

"You make so much good stuff happen, you care so much about this world," mayor Robertson said in a video posted to The Rock's Instagram account on Friday.

Robertson went on to thank The Rock for helping create business in Metro Vancouver.

The production of Skyscraper has created more than 3,000 jobs in the region.

"Honestly, the best part of Vancouver, besides all the free food you guys give me, is helping create jobs for the hard-working locals. So thank you, and thank you, Vancouver," The Rock told Robertson in receiving the notion of his own day.

The proclamation wasn't made public until Friday, the day after the inaugural The Rock Day.
