A man stole an RCMP cruiser and promptly crashed it in a Lower Mainland joyride early Friday.
The suspect is facing charges after the cop car was stolen during a routine traffic stop on Lougheed Highway in Mission about 2:30 a.m.
While the officer was talking to the driver he'd just pulled over, the passenger ran to the cruiser and took off.
The GPS-equipped cruiser was tracked to Maple Ridge and was stopped by a spike belt, but the suspect kept going into a ditch and fled on foot. He was arrested in a nearby motorhome.
The driver who was initially pulled over was released.
