Bed bugs on a plane

A New Westminster woman is more frustrated by customer service than the bed bug bites she and her family received on a recent trans-Atlantic flight.

Heather Szilagyi, her fiance and daughter were on board a British Airways flight to the United Kingdom when the incident occurred. It was a nine-hour flight.

Szilagyi noticed the critters crawl out from behind a TV screen when they received their meal.

Flight attendants apologized, she said.

"It was nine hours of knowing that I was probably going to get bit, but not being sure. But there wasn't really anything I could do about it," she told CTV.

"I was surprised I was able to relax but, what can you do?"

While she and her daughter were both covered in bites, Szilagyi says it was trying to deal with the company's customer service people that most frustrated her.

It wasn't until they posted a message on Twitter that the airline reached out, offering them first-class tickets for the return trip home.

"It was really, really hard on us just spending all of our time on the phone and arguing with people and knowing that they wanted to help us but weren't allowed."
