Three rescued from blaze

Three people were rescued from a burning home in Surrey overnight.

The fire broke out on 116th Avenue just before midnight. While waiting for firefighters to arrive, neighbours rushed to help two elderly residents escape.

Neil Prendeville said smoke was billowing from the house as they pulled them to safety.

One resident was right by the door, "so we grabbed him, pulled him out and he said he pulled his wife down the stairs. So we reached in and grabbed her and just lifted her and carried her out," Prendeville told CTV.

One man was still missing inside. Firefighters found him on the second floor and carried him out.

The man was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
