Penticton

A lasting legacy

Nick Bevanda's spirit will live on in the walls of many Okanagan buildings he designed, including the expansion of the Penticton Lakeside Resort.

Bevanda, a beloved Okanagan architect, designed the new tower before his passing from cancer in May 2017.

Resort owner David Prystay dedicated the new structure to Bevanda during a small event Tuesday afternoon.

"I went and saw him at the hospice house and told him we are going to name this building after you and he said 'Well good, make sure there is lots of press there,'" Prystay said. "I'm waiting for a sign, because he told me, that he's going to let me know when he is around."

"I'll be out one day and something is going to happen, and it will be Nick, he's just a great guy."

Bevanda had a long and memorable history working with the Penticton Lakeside Resort, according to his son Branko Bevanda.

"He was very proud of this building, it's unfortunate he never got to see it finished but he would love that he was recognized amongst his community in such a prominent place," Branko said.

Bevanda also designed the Hooded Merganser, Black Hills Estate Winery, Penticton Secondary School and Moog and Friends Hospice House where he spent his last few days.
