4,000 without power

More than 4,000 BC Hydro customers in West Kelowna, Peachland and Summerland are without power as a result of Tuesday's wind storm.

The latest information from BC Hydro's website indicates two separate outages have affected 4,072 customers. Both are currently under investigation.

One outage, affecting 2,500 customers, stretches south of Elliott Road in West Kelowna, east of Princeton Avenue in Peachland, north and south of Highway 97.

A second outage, affecting 1,572 customers, includes an area north of Beach Avenue in Peachland, west of Gellatly Road in West Kelowna and east of Highway 97C.

A large chunk of the province is experiencing heavy winds associated with a Pacific storm blowing across B.C.

More than 14,000 customers in the Thompson/Shuswap and Lower Mainland/Sunshine Coast are also without power.

A message on BC Hydro's website says the utility expects power outages to mount until the wind subsides.

"Crews have been dispatched to all areas to restore power quickly and safely," the message states.

"Exact restoration times will not be available until full damage assessments are complete. Please check back for the latest updates."
