Bus service too costly?

The City of Enderby is supporting a call for a review of the public transit system in the North Okanagan, said Mayor Greg McCune.

Council received a letter from Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper at its meeting Monday night that questioned the cost allocation model. In other words, the City of Armstrong is not happy with how much it is paying for the bus service.

“We do support the process of reviewing something that started many years ago,” said McCune. “It's just fairness.”

McCune said a review could require Enderby to possibly pay more for the daily service.

Meanwhile, Pieper said the City of Armstrong had asked the North Okanagan Regional District and BC Transit to review the funding model but that hasn't happened.

“The only other option we had was to ask for a service review. We are open to communication with the regional district or we can go to a service review.”

Pieper said there were “inequities” between all of the users in the service.

“We aren't complaining about the service...it's the amount each community has to subsidize the service.”
