Robbed at knifepoint

Kelowna RCMP are searching for a robber who held up M&M Food Market on Harvey Avenue and also took off with a customer's purse.

Just before 5 p.m. Sunday, police received a report of a robbery in progress at the market. Witnesses told police the suspect brandished a knife, demanded money from the till and told a customer to hand over her purse.

“He fled the store on foot, towards Springfield Road along Ambrosi Street, with an undisclosed amount of cash, along with the customer’s black purse,” says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “The woman’s purse contained additional cash, and a beige wallet with her personal identification and various bank and credit cards inside.”

The suspect is described as Caucasian, in his late twenties or early thirties, with his face obstructed by a black bandana. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie underneath a black wind breaker, a grey and white baseball hat and white shoes.

A canine unit searched the area, but the man is believed to have fled on a bike or in a vehicle.

The store clerk and customer were not injured during the encounter.
