Four lanes for Highway 1

Another section of the Trans-Canada Highway is scheduled to be four-laned.

A project to widen the highway near Golden is about to go to tender.

About 20 kilometres west of Golden, the project will expand 2.5 km of highway to four lanes and improve access to a Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement inspection station.

The province anticipates awarding the contract early in 2018, with construction next spring through fall 2019. Its estimated cost is $19.4 million.

The federal government is contributing up to $7.27 million, and the province the remaining $12.13 million.

Accelerating Highway 1 upgrades between Kamloops and the Alberta border is a provincial priority. The 2017 budget update committed $273 million over the next three years toward such projects.
