It was a curtain call unlike any other.
Jose Bautista likely played his last game at The Rogers Centre as a Toronto Blue Jay. He made his way from the outfield, hugged his teammates, walked off the turf, and went back onto the field with tears in his eyes thanking the fans.
On Sunday Bautista had two hits, drove in one run and scored another to help propel the Blue Jays to a 9-5 win over the New York Yankees.
The 36-year-old signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jays before the 2017 season.
Six road games remain before the Blue Jays turn down their end of a mutual $17-million option on Bautista for 2018.
It was a send off that will be remembered by many for a very long time. One that will likely go down in history for a player who has been the heart of the team over the past decade.
