Coach sells drugs at practice

A minor football league coach in Nanaimo has been charged after reportedly selling drugs during practice.

Levan Anthony Hayden, an assistant coach for a team of players aged nine to 12, is facing six counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Hayden allegedly sold drugs during his team's practice, with 70 to 80 people around, at John Barsby School on Thursday.

He was arrested after practice wrapped up in the evening. A 40-year-old woman was also arrested relating to the incident.

“The arrest led then to a search on a house and they seized a quantity of meth, GHB, cocaine, fentanyl and a switchblade which is a prohibited weapon," Const. Gary O'Brien said.

Both Hayden and the female arrested have since been released from custody.

Hayden will appear in court on Oct. 26.

The president of the South-Side Minor Football Association said the team is destroyed by the news.
