Stroller hit in crosswalk

The Penticton RCMP traffic section wrote a pair of violation tickets last week connected to incidents that could have ended badly.

Officers were called to an accident at Atkinson and Industrial Ave. at 8:47 a.m. Sept. 14, arriving to find a green Subaru that had struck a stroller containing a four year old while making a left turn.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth said the mother and child were sent to hospital with minor injuries. The driver was issued a violation ticket for an illegal turn.

Then at 1:50 p.m., police were conducting speed limit enforcement in a school zone on Green Ave. W. Officers stopped a vehicle going over the limit. Police believed the driver — who had a young child in the car — was impaired.

The driver blew a “warning” on the roadside screening device and was issued a speeding ticket.

Police would like to remind the public that school speed zones are active once again.
