Vipers shut out Centennials

Niko Karamanis scored twice and Ty Taylor earned a 29-save shutout as the Vernon Vipers blanked the Merritt Centennials 2-0, Friday night at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena.

With the win, Vernon improves to 3-0 in the young BCHL season, while Merritt drops to 0-3.

The Vipers got on the board at 17:21 of the first with Karamanis' goal. The Courtenay native scored his second goal of the night with 3:59 left to play in the third.

Karamanis' pair of goals helped him to being named the game's first star. Cents goalie Jacob Berger was named the second star, thanks to 30 saves on 32 shots. Taylor's 29 saves in the Vipers crease earned him third-star honours.

The Vipers travel to the Town Toyota Center to play the Wenatchee Wild, Saturday night.

The Cents return to action on Saturday night as well, facing the West Kelowna Warriors at the Royal Lepage Place.
